Target audience

This activity is intended for healthcare workers involved with Dialysis Access such as: Clinical nephrologists interested in optimizing dialysis access care; established and aspiring interventional nephrologists, interventional radiologists, vascular access surgeons, fellow and residents, nephrology or advanced-practice nurses involved in dialysis patient care of vascular access management, coding/billing staff, radiological technologists, dialysis technologists, nephrology practice managers, and access center managers.

  • Assess ways to improve training in order to make sound clinical decisions.
  • Recognize the benefits of effective communication in a multidisciplinary team setting to advance the care of dialysis patients.
  • Analyze the benefits and drawbacks of different dialysis options for patients who need renal replacement.
  • Identify risks and benefits of peritoneal and hemodialysis.
  • Compare traditional and nontraditional approaches for arteriovenous access creation and intervention.
  • Determine how best to make clinical decisions for patients with thoracic central vein obstruction.
  • Identify how best to manage patients with AV fistula aneurysms.
  • Discuss factors that contribute to patient safety during dialysis-access surgery and catheter-based interventions.
  • Decision making in how to best treat a failing AV access.
